Un amas globulaire\u00a0est un\u00a0amas stellaire\u00a0tr\u00e8s dense, contenant typiquement une centaine de milliers d’\u00e9toiles distribu\u00e9es dans une sph\u00e8re dont la taille varie d’une vingtaine \u00e0 quelques centaines d’ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re. Leur densit\u00e9 est ainsi nettement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e que celle des\u00a0amas ouverts. Les \u00e9toiles de ces amas sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement des\u00a0g\u00e9antes rouges.<\/p>

L’importante quantit\u00e9 d’\u00e9toiles coupl\u00e9e \u00e0 leur proximit\u00e9 relative rendent ces amas compacts et durables dans le temps. La force de gravit\u00e9 que chaque \u00e9toile exerce sur l’autre les emp\u00eachent de s’\u00e9chapper de l’amas, cr\u00e9ant une certaine coh\u00e9sion.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Les amas globulaires sont distribu\u00e9s autour de la galaxie et forment une sorte de halo sph\u00e9rique autour de celle-ci. On en d\u00e9nombre 150 connus, mais il est probable qu’il en existe plus, cach\u00e9s par le gaz et les poussi\u00e8res galactiques. La moiti\u00e9 environ des amas globulaires est concentr\u00e9e dans les constellations du Sagittaire, d’Ophiuchus et du Scorpion.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
